Highlights of my Experience
The LinkedIn Student Learning Ambassador program was an amazing addition to this semester of school and I am extremely grateful to have had this opportunity. I want to thank everybody at LinkedIn for all of their support throughout my journey. It has been a fun and exciting adventure.
I would say that the biggest highlight of my experience was just being involved in promoting something greater. I love to encourage and motivate people and with this program, it gave me an amazing opportunity to help others learn, achieve their goals and take the next steps.
The main projects that I engaged in were writing projects and creative projects. I really wanted to improve on my writing skills so this is why I tried to engage in these tasks. Overall my writing projects went well and I feel that I made some improvement in how to engage an audience through writing. The most fun that I had with the program was my creative projects. Creating the ticket campaign and seeing students interact with them was so much fun to do. I wish I would have had more time with my last campaign because I feel that exams got in the way of students being interested in participating. I think the next time instead of leaving the tickets for students to find, I would set up a table where they would post right away to ensure that there is engagement. I also think I would try and set up multiple platforms for students to post, such as Twitter and Instagram, and not just LinkedIn. Maybe some students were confused with how to post on LinkedIn so this would eliminate that worry. Overall, this was an incredible experience and I am glad to have had the opportunity to participate in this pilot program.
The Benefits and Drawbacks of the Program
The benefits of the program are that you not only get to build yourself an amazing portfolio of work that you have created, but you also get to improve skills and build a stronger personal brand. Having the freedom to engage in a variety of tasks that speak to you is a great way to improve and touch upon the skills you want and really take your skills to the next level. The program does not push you to engage in tasks you are uncomfortable with either which is also a huge plus for students worried about participating. In my opinion, there are so many benefits of the program with very little drawbacks. The one potential drawback I could see with students is if you cannot organize tasks. For me, I ensured that I started school strong and ended on a good note. I prioritized a majority of my tasks in the middle of my semester to avoid worrying about exams. I would say that if you can manage tasks well, then there really isn’t many drawbacks to the program at all.
Skills That I Developed Through the Program
These are the top four skills that I personally feel I developed throughout the program:
1) Writing skills
2) Creative skills
3) Networking skills
4) Communication skills
The best part about the program is you can work on the skills that you want to. I wanted to engage in projects that would benefit my writing and creative skills, and this is why these are the skills that I personally developed. Through the program, I also made some amazing connections and really got to utilize my networking and communication skills. I feel that I have really strengthened these skills because of the program.
Feedback About the Program
In all honesty, this program was an amazing experience and a great way to build your own personal brand. The only area where I was a bit confused with the program was whether we were to promote Lynda.com or LinkedIn Learning. My thought was that LinkedIn was taking over Lynda.com and the old way of branding it with the yellow and black was not to be used. After getting clarification on this, it made the rest of the projects that I was creating a lot easier. I would say in the training sessions at the beginning, making it clear of what students should promote with some examples would be a great addition in order to avoid confusion.
Overall, this journey of being a LinkedIn Student Learning Ambassador has been a pleasant experience and I strongly recommend the program to future students looking for an amazing opportunity to build and better themselves.
